MAX POKROVSKY
Max Pokrovsky is an international musician and TV star from Russia. He has a distinctly unique and contradictory image which stands head and shoulders above the rest of the Russian celebrities. There are few independent artists in the Russian music industry who are so eagerly accepted by the mainstream mass media.
Max has written a huge number of national music chart hits with his highly successful band Nogu Svelo! The band is extremely popular in all the countries of the former USSR and they have won numerous national music awards during their career.
Max is also a regular participant on popular music shows, talk shows and reality TV on the mainstream channels in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and other countries.
Max’s UK project Max Inc. has successfully begun. His debut single ‘Have A Nice Flight’ will be out soon…
NOGU SVELO!
Nogu Svelo! (Ногу Свело!) could simply translate as “F*ck me, “I’ve got cramp in my leg!” but the instantly catchy Nogu Svelo! sounds great anyway, regardless of what it means! During the band’s 20 years history Nogu Svelo! have released:
All the band’s albums were released by the major Russian labels: Soyuz, CD Land and Mystery of Sound. Nogu Svelo! won numerous awards throughout their lifetime including a Russian MTV Movie Award, the MTV Special Prize, the popular Russian TV Channel 1 “Star” award and many other recognized awards.
Nogu Svelo! are the Russian equivalent of a sordid three-way love affair between the mangled, genre melding of The Clash, the musical pomposity and dry wit of Blur and the dare to be different new wave pop punk of XTC… and then some!
Nogu Svelo! combine unique, contemporary sounds, insane effects, vigorous beats and cheeky lyrics full of satirical, dark humor to produce a sound which is both wildly different yet instantly likeable.
Nogu Svelo! became famous with the excellent Haru Mamburu, an infectiously catchy, tongue-in-cheek load of waffle in a non-existent language. It is ridiculous but it is also quite brilliant and is a perfect example of what the band are all about.
Nogu Svelo! started in the early 90’s and their success has seen them sell over a whopping 10 million records and perform to crowds of over 100,000 at many of the big music festivals across Europe. The band continues to successfully tour regularly.
MOVIES AND TV HIGHLIGHTS
The Russian media loves Max Pokrovsky because of his intelligent, sophisticated interview skills and his warped sense of humor. The public embrace Max and his every word. People just instantly love this guy and his influence is hard to ignore. Max and Nogu Svelo! are regularly on TV channels such as NTV, the 1st Channel, Russia 2, MTV, A1.
Radio Maximum, Mayak, Nashe Radio and Russian Radio are also great supporters of Max and his music.
Max constantly takes part in Russian TV shows. He had a successful stint on the The Last Hero, the 1st Channel’s version of the world famous reality show Survivor.
Max was the only musician who wrote a song about the laborious life on the island. The song called “I Am Not The Last Hero!” became the soundtrack to the season, and was later released as a single with additional remixes. He didn’t marry a blond bimbo to re-launch a dwindling career though!
Max has also starred in the Hollywood movies Treasure Raiders and In the Rhythm of Tango which also featured Nogu Svelo! on the soundtrack.
Max wrote a number of songs for big international Russian movie Turkish Gambit which appeared on the main soundtrack release. The movie was released worldwide and the songs became very popular. The song won Best Soundtrack at the Russian MTV Movie Awards.
Max has just established his project Max Inc. in the UK. The track Shopping was a club hit and reached number 38 in the dance charts. 2nd single Infinite Highway stayed at #8 in the Music week Upfront Chart for 2 months.
Max has collaborated with many British DJs including DJ Stonebridge, DJ Ripper and Digital Dog. Max Inc. has also received positive reviews from producers Martyn Ware (Heaven 17, The Human League) and Stephen Hague (Pet Shop Boys, A-ha, New Order) who have both worked on the original versions of the Max Inc. tracks.
Max intends to use his huge Russian profile to re-record instruments, remix the tunes and translate some lyrics and give them added punch for re-release in the UK and Europe.
OLYMPIC ANTHEM
Max recently wrote the official anthem for Team Russia for the 2012 Olympic Games. The anthem was officially launched at the beginning of January in London.
The Team Russia project will support Russian sportsmen in all kinds of sport competitions as well as the 2012 Olympic Games.
Max visited the first Olympic event in London where he released the song to the media and special guests including the Ambassador of Russia and Lord Colin Moynihan.
MIXING
Max’s musical endeavors also include DJing. He creates his own mixes and cooperates with famous Russian and UK DJs. Max is passionate about music and sound, constantly exploring new ideas using state-of-the-art equipment and programs at the cutting edge of modern music technology.
Max’s next goal is to expand his career abroad. Nogu Svelo!!’s super hit “Haru Mamburu” is translated to English and rearranged for UK radio and club promotion. Max is shooting a video for his new song “Have a Nice Flight” in Los Angeles now. This video is to be promoted throughout Europe.
